Grants and awards
In addition to several conference travel grants I was awarded by the Georgetown University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, as a graduate student I also successfully applied for several other scholarships, fellowships, and awards. In the summer of 2015, I received a Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) through a program sponsored by the US Department of State. Thanks to this incredible opportunity, I was able to study Urdu for two months at the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) in Lucknow, India. Two years later, during the summer of 2017, I was then given an ACTFL scholarship to study Italian for a month at the Centro Linguistico Italiano Dante Alighieri in Rome.
As an advanced graduate student, my awards became more closely tied to my research, and in 2019 I was honored to receive a $2500 Graduate Research Support Grant to help compensate participants in my dissertation study from the National Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations in conjunction with the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages. Later in 2019, I was awarded a Fulbright Open Study / Research Fellowship, sponsored once again by the US State Department, to spend 10 months in Germany at Technische Universität (TU) Darmstadt, where I conducted research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Britta Hufeisen.
During my previous position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies at Davidson College, in 2024 I was awarded a Faculty Study and Research (FS&R) grant worth $4900 for me to conduct research incorporating the French for Spanish Speakers class that I pioneered during the Spring 2025 semester. In connection with that class, I was also given an additional $2000 Curriculum Development Grant by the Crosland Center for Teaching and Learning, which I used to create a series of online exercises for Spanish speakers learning French. This set of exercises will eventually form the basis for the online platform accompanying the French for Spanish Speakers textbook I am presently working on.
In recognition of the above efforts, in Spring 2025 the Davidson College administration gave me an Exceptional Teaching by Visiting Faculty Award, which came with a $750 stipend. Finally, in December 2024, Davidson generously awarded me with a $950 Publication Grant to cover the publication fees associated with an article appearing in Frontiers in Language Sciences.
